I don’t know about you, but summer is by far my favorite season. It’s just so nice to exit the house without having to don 18 layers of clothing and to enjoy the warm feeling of sun on my face. There are some foolproof ways that you can tell summer is on its way in Pennsylvania… Here are some of them.

  1. Students (and teachers) are just counting down the days until school is out… And trying their hardest to drag themselves through the home stretch that is final exams.

  1. Tis the season for college graduates to come rolling back into your home town and start looking for jobs. Even those still in college will be arriving back home about a month earlier than younger kids get out of school. Lucky!

  1. Baseball is now in full-swing. Go Pirates! (Or Go Phillies, if you’re into that kind of thing…)

  1. Al fresco dining now offers a fun, outdoor way of enjoying your meals. There’s nothing better than eating dinner while feeling a light summer breeze on your face.

  1. You can see people beginning to prepare their outdoor pools to open for the season and it fills you with a giddy feeling of excitement.

  1. Bathing suits are hitting the shelves in all of your favorite clothing stores, and you’re starting to think about what summer clothing you have tucked away in your closet…

  1. Time to get those toes flip flop-ready.

  1. During the day, birds fill the air with their melodic song, and at night, you can listen to a chorus of crickets. Soon enough, we will be seeing lightning bugs (and hearing some deafening cicadas).

  1. You can now sleep with your window open at night without freezing to death. It’s so peaceful to drift off while listening to those crickets…

  2. And of course, Rita’s is now open for business, along with all of your local ice cream shops. Getting that soft serve or water ice is a fun activity that you can only enjoy at this time of year.
