As much as we love West Virginia, sometimes jobs and families take us elsewhere in the world. While we may leave the Mountain State, it will never leave us.

Here are a few of the things we miss most about West Virginia when we move away:

  1. The mountains

Stephen Weppler/Flickr I know when I moved away briefly, I was often homesick for the mountains. This looks like home to me.

  1. Hearing other people with our accent

  1. Fields of fireflies

David Fant/Flickr There’s something magical about seeing a field light up like this.

  1. The people

Joanne C. Sullivan/Flickr Of course you miss your family and friends there, but you also miss how friendly even the strangers are as you walk down the street or pass them in businesses.

  1. Autumn

  1. The gold dome of the Capitol building.

sparklebrightly/flickr I’ve said it before, but when I was a kid traveling for vacation or whatnot, I always knew I was home when I saw the gold on the capitol dome.

  1. The sunsets

  1. Our state parks and forests.

  1. Our college football teams

  1. Tudor’s Biscuits

Justin Grimes/Flickr Real talk: how many of you who have moved away still get a Tudor’s Biscuit whenever you’re home? I used to make sure I did at least once in a while.
