Your perspective as a child is fresh, and allows you to pick out the weird things in life that many adults have grown used to. For instance, when I was a child, I asked my mom, “Why is there a giant alien spaceship in our backyard?” and she responded, “Oh, I forgot I left that there. Don’t tell anyone at school.”
Here are some observations that you may have made as a child growing up in the state of Pennsylvania.
- New Jersey is the worst.

- Wow, this cheesesteak is great.
Flickr A state specialty.
- After you’ve been driving for 5 hours… How is it possible that I’m still in Pennsylvania?
Flickr It never ends!
- Why does everyone think I’m Amish?
Flickr Pennsylvania has the highest concentration of Amish people in the country.
- You are always forced to explain where you live in relation to either Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.
Flickr Nowhere else in the state actually exists in the imaginations of those from other places, apparently.
- The fall foliage here is amazing.
Flickr People travel from near and far just to get a glimpse of it.
- Is Penn State University a college, or a small country?
Flickr With a gigantic population and an undying love of football.
- When will there be a blizzard so that I don’t have to go to school?
Flickr For one day, or for, like, a few years. Either way is fine by me.
- Pennsylvania is simply the best.
Flickr It has its quirks and eccentricities, but in the end, Pennsylvania is our home and it has too many amazing qualities to list them all. I wouldn’t want to leave.
