Living in Arizona is awesome. The sun is shining, we’re surrounded by beautiful landscapes, our food is tasty, and we’re pretty easygoing. We have a bit of everything but, even in this arid paradise, we do have some pet peeves. Here are a few things that tend to get on our nerves.

  1. Claim Arizona is boring.

Brian Brooks/Flickr This is one criticism I’ve never understood. You can find events taking place daily and there’s always something to do.

  1. Or, worse yet, that our state is just a barren wasteland.

Daniel Weinand/Flickr They see barren, I see striking landscapes.

  1. When someone makes a false claim that Arizona doesn’t receive snow.

Michael Wilson/Flickr Yes, Arizona gets plenty of feet of snow every year.

  1. Or believes that Arizona is somehow still the Wild West.

Erin/Flickr We may have a prominent Western culture but this isn’t 1880; you won’t find stagecoaches driving along dirt roads or people parking their horses in front of stores. Sorry if we burst your bubble!

  1. Or thinks that nothing exists outside of the Phoenix-metro area, Sedona, or the Grand Canyon.

Hanroanu/Flickr If you’re going to visit this beautiful state, make the most of it and explore!

  1. Witnessing someone waste water.

Steve Johnson/Flickr Just don’t do it.

  1. Hearing someone recount an awful tale of getting stung by a scorpion.

Bob/Flickr Just the thought of one of these little guys scurrying across my floors makes me cringe.

  1. When you find out someone’s air conditioning (or swamp cooler) went out on a hot summer day.

Greg Hirson/Flickr You can only hope it gets repaired before the temperatures reach 120-degrees.

  1. When you realize you need to drive while touching a searing steering wheel.

Christian Greland/Flickr You’ll probably also realize that all those jokes about driving with oven mitts seem like a good idea after all.

  1. When newcomers complain endlessly about their new home.

Tamara/Flickr Sure, Arizona isn’t for everyone but there’s no need to complain constantly about the state.

How many of these did you find yourself relating to? What else would you add to it?
