Thanksgiving was just yesterday, and it has everyone thinking about what they’re most thankful for: family, friends, turkey, gravity, etc. Before we get too far out of the spirit of graciousness, let’s take a few minutes to think about the best parts of living in Pennsylvania. Here is what I’m most thankful for as a PA resident.

  1. Pennsylvanians are ahead of the thankfulness curve; Ben Franklin, a Pennsylvania visionary, at one time vouched for turkeys as America’s mascot, instead of the eagle.

  1. We have some fascinating history to call our own in Pennsylvania, such as President Lincoln’s delivery of the Gettysburg Address.

  1. Pennsylvanians can take a daytrip anytime they want to exciting out-of-state places like New York or the Jersey Shore.

  1. Pennsylvania’s location is also awesome because we have a multitude of different cultures, evident in the many dialects present here. We are the Keystone State for a reason.

  1. We have tons of awesome tucked away treasures, such as Fallingwater, which is one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most beloved architectural masterpieces.

  1. And of course, the natural scenery in Pennsylvania is incredible. Valleys, forests, trees, streams, fields: we have it all.

  1. Yum, Hershey’s chocolate is a staple not only on Halloween but all year round.

  1. Have you ever eaten better than you have in Pennsylvania? Not only is our home-cooked cuisine incredible, but Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have some of the most highly rated restaurants in the entire country.

  1. Pennsylvania is home to more Amish people than anywhere else in the world, who make our state a uniquely interesting place to live.

  1. We don’t get bored with the weather; here in Pennsylvania we enjoy all four seasons. Sometimes, it seems like we enjoy all four in the same day.

  1. Even if you don’t hunt yourself, getting a break from school on the first day of hunting season is nice while you’re growing up.

  1. Yuengling, the first and best brewery in the country, is near and dear to Pennsylvania’s heart.
