When you live in Wyoming, you’re a breed apart. We Wyomingites tend to have old-fashioned values, strong work ethics and a sense of community that’s missing in some other parts of the country. So when our friends and family come to visit for the holidays we have lot of explaining to do.
- That’s a bison not a buffalo.
Photos by Clark/flickr Buffalo live in Asia and Africa. These large, cranky creatures are called bison.
- And no…you can’t pet the bison.
letdown102/flickr Seriously? These people are way too close to the bison. How would you like to be rammed by a thousand pounds of upset bovine?
- Yeah, we know it’s a whole lot of empty space. Gorgeous, peaceful, empty space.
Bryant Olsen/flickr We really, really like it that way.
- Bring your GPS, or rely on landmarks to get where you need to go.
Jimmy Emerson, DVM/flickr We have miles and miles of gravel roads, and not a lot of signage.
- Yes, we think this is entertainment.
Adrian Hu/flickr Who needs action movies when we’ve got real, live action right here?
- No, we hadn’t planned to take you to the mall.
Kerry Lanert/flickr This is more what we had in mind!

USFWS Mountain Prairie/flickr They’re pretty much everywhere. Sheesh - stop slamming on your breaks and craning your necks already. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to snap some pics of these guys.
- No, we can’t guarantee that you’ll see a bear at Yellowstone National Park.
NPCA Photos/flickr And even if you do see one - you can’t pet him!
- No, that guy’s not an actor put there for your entertainment.
Ranch Seeker/flickr We have real cowboys here. He’s just doin’ his job.
