Besides being our favorite place ever, Nebraska also happens to have some of our favorite people ever. Although we have no (or very few, at best) scientific facts to back up these assertions, these are the things we think we Nebraskans do better than people in other states.
- Inventing tasty foods.
flickr/Jimmy Emerson, DVM The Rueben, butter brickle ice cream, Runzas, and Kool-Aid were all invented right here.
- Grilling
flickr/U.S. Army Cooking on our barbecues is not a purely summertime activity for us. This is a year-round skill that we’ve honed to perfection.
- Tailgating
flickr/Kyle Murphy We’re actually pretty amazing at having parties in parking lots, it turns out. We can find fun just about anywhere!
- Partying
flickr/Rich You’d be hard-pressed to find a weekend when there wasn’t some kind of festival or party happening somewhere in the state. We LOVE getting together to celebrate anything and everything.
- Sports enthusiasm
flickr/Brian Cook Whether we’re rooting for the local high school kids, the Huskers, or a favorite pro team, we’re unflinchingly loyal to our teams.
- Raising cattle
flickr/Mark Goebel We don’t technically produce more beef than Texas, but we definitely do it better.
- Growing corn…
flickr/Richard Hurd It IS part of our state identity, after all.
- …and soybeans
flickr/United Soybean Board They’re our #2 crop, so yeah…we’re pretty good at soybeaning.
- Irrigation
flickr/John Holm This might sound a little weird, but we’re the world’s largest producer of and user of center pivot irrigation equipment. So we’re clearly better at it than everyone else.
- Storm watching
flickr/Niccolo Ubalducci We’re big fans of thunderstorms. And wow, do the storms get amazing here.
- Museums
flickr/Ali Eminov Art, history, natural history…we have all kinds of museums, and every one of them is totally fascinating.
- State Pride
flickr/Ken Lund You’ll never meet a group of nicer, friendlier people - or a group prouder of their home state.
There really is no place like Nebraska! What do you think we do better than anyone else?
