Here in Ohio, there are certain objects you’ll find in our homes that make us who we are—and while some of these items appear in homes in other states, their presence doesn’t mean what it means to us here in Ohio. The following are 12 undeniable things you’ll (probably) find in nearly every Ohio home.
- A buckeye necklace and/or keychain.

- A sled and/or snow gear to brighten the long, dreary days when the relentless snow and winter weather come out to play.

- Also, car ice scrapers because they essentially save our lives in the winter. (Or, you know, at the very least, they enable us to get to work on time.)

- A sweeper—because that’s what it’s called, OK? For the last time, that’s what it’s called.

- A Longaberger basket of some sort (even if it’s full of miscellaneous items or tucked away in the basement.)
Deb Nystrom/Flickr
- Pop. None of this “soda” nonsense.
Ted & Dani Percival/Flickr
- A Cedar Point or Kings Island ride photo that you bought from the park—because those ride cameras showcase the best memories and most embarrassing faces.
Patrick McGarvey/Flickr
- Homemade candy buckeyes—especially around the holidays.
Steven Depolo/Flickr
- A cornhole game set, because it really comes in handy for any outdoor occasion.
Ryan Synder/Flickr
- A sports throw blanket. (I’m not really sure why. They just seem to exist in every Ohio home.)

- Tennis shoes—because “sneakers” are what cartoon characters wear. (…er, something like that.)
Carol VanHook/Flickr
- A welcome mat—because we’re friendly people and we really do want you to feel welcome here in our weather crazy, lovely state.
