There are certain things that only West Virginians do. Do these things make us weird? Maybe. You be the judge.

Here are some weird things that West Virginians do.

  1. We put cole slaw on our hot dogs.

Steven Depolo/Flickr I thought this was totally normal (and it is delicious) until I found out people from other states don’t do this.

  1. The WVU fans among us sometimes shout a “Let’s Go…” at random places and wait for someone to reply with “Mountaineers!”

Erik Muendel/Flickr I’ve heard it at concerts in Pittsburgh, even. We just wanna know where our fellow West Virginians are. We also sometimes yell a certain profanity-laden cheer aimed at one of our rivals (Pitt).

  1. Some of us pronounce wash with an “r”

bark/flickr I love the way we talk, though.

  1. We eat our cornbread with milk.

Shelly/Flickr Yum!

  1. We celebrate June 20 like it’s our own birthday.

Flag of West Virginia Well, technically West Virginia Day is our birthday!

  1. We get really excited when we see fellow West Virginians on TV or in movies.

Aaron Keene Like when Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. won America’s Got Talent!

  1. We celebrate Thanksgiving by going hunting. (Some of us even have the week off of school.)

  1. We gather once a year to watch people jump off a bridge.

Jeremy Markovich/Flickr There’s no other festival quite like Bridge Day.

  1. We look for any excuse to sing “Country Roads.”

ABC Television We sing it at karaoke, request it at concerts and sing it in our living rooms.

  1. We have a cookoff dedicated to roadkill.

Dennis R/ /Yelp It’s held every fall in Pocahontas County.

  1. We eat a smelly vegetable every spring.

Jessica and Lon Binder They’re delicious but they are kinda smelly.

  1. We love and hate our state at the same time.

Forestwander.com There’s all this beauty here and we love it but we know there are also problems.

How many of these things do you do? What else would you add to this list?
