If you’re lucky enough to call Mississippi home, you know there’s a lot to love about the state; however, you also know there are a few things that aren’t so great. Obviously, the good outweighs the bad, but you just can’t shake the feeling of dislike for certain things that come along with life in the Magnolia State. From technology failure to annoying insects, here are 13 things you probably hate if you’re from Mississippi.
- The hit and miss cell phone reception that comes along with living in a really remote area.

- The excruciating summer heat.
Andrew Blight/Flickr
- Hurricane season and all that goes along with it.
Bill Murray/Flickr
- Even though it’s pretty much essential, Wal-Mart.
LevoisJ/Flickr
- The uncertainty of what type of animal may run out in front of your vehicle.
Michael Massa/Flickr
- And the sad consequences if said animal doesn’t make it.
Sean MacEntee/Flickr
- Having to deal with stereotypes about the state.
Richard Masoner/Flickr
- Answering silly questions from out-of-towners, like “Do you have plumbing?”

- When people find out you’re from Mississippi and immediately start citing the “M-I-crooked letter…” chant. (I live here. I know how the state’s name is spelled, thank you very much.)

- The state’s liquor laws, which, depending on the county, prohibit the sale of alcohol on Sundays or, if the county is completely dry, all together.
Don Nunn/Flickr
- Pesky insects such as mosquitoes and fire ants.
Martin LaBar/Flickr
- Poorly made tea. Enough said.

- Leaving home! Whether it be by choice or a necessary change, it’s hard to leave such a great place.
