As an Arizona native, there’s nothing that irks me more than people claiming that our state is boring, ugly, and unimpressive. On the contrary, we live in a beautiful, unique place! Since I write pretty frequently about Arizona’s natural beauty, today I’m going to focus on some of the unique things you can do in the state. Check out a few of the unique experiences that made the list and that would be difficult to do elsewhere!

  1. Attempt to fry an egg on the sidewalk. Can it be done?

  1. A re-enactment of the shootout at the O.K. Corral.

  1. Enjoy a drink in the old frontier saloons on Prescott’s Whiskey Row.

  1. Ride a mule in and out of the Grand Canyon.

  1. Drive the centuries-old twisting (and sometimes scary) road of Apache Trail.

  1. Watch the sun rise and set at Monument Valley’s most iconic features, the Mittens.

  1. Eat a delicious chimi at one of its alleged birthplaces: El Charro in Tucson or Macayo’s in Phoenix.

  1. Or eat a Sonoran dog with a cup of ice-cold agua fresca.

  1. You can also eat piki bread, blue corn mush, and mutton stew with fry bread in one day on the Navajo Nation and Hopi Reservation in Arizona’s northeastern section.

  1. See for yourself if Sedona’s vortices are a bunch of malarkey or actual energy fields.

  1. Take your dog for walks or a hike in summer - put little shoes on them or wait until after the sun sets.

Matthew Blouir/Flickr You don’t want the pads on their feet to burn! Just remember that if the sidewalk is too hot for your feet, it will be too hot for them.

  1. Watch two of the oldest rodeos in the country in Prescott and Payson.

  1. Witness the rare treat of seeing snow coat the desert.

Erik Wilde/Flickr I wish that’s what it looked like today.

  1. Or, another seasonal event coming up, all the drama of a summer monsoon storm.
