So far, the last part of 2015 has been less than a winter wonderland. Parts of the state got some snow, but for the most part temperatures have been mild and we haven’t had the chance to go sledding or sling snowballs at each other. If you’re missing winter and are wishing for a little bit of snow and ice, these pictures from previous years will put you in a frozen Nebraska state of mind.

  1. Each individual blade of grass is covered in its own sheath of ice. I love the crunch it makes when you step on it.

  1. Love the way the sun sparkles on these frozen branches.

  1. Blizzards in late 2009/early 2010 covered the railroad tracks near David City with 6-12 foot drifts of snow. A rotary snow plow was sent to retrieve a snowed-in freight train - and it made for a very unusual picture!

  1. This pond isn’t all the way frozen yet, but you can see the freeze creeping in.

  1. This waterfall at Platte River State Park is also still in the process of freezing, looking just as magical as it does in the summer.

  1. The upper branches of this frozen tree don’t seem burdened by the snow and ice.

What do you think – do these photos make you miss winter, or are you happy we haven’t had much of the cold stuff yet?
