Everyone has likes and dislikes, and sometimes these things go according to state. Not to sound stereotypical or anything, but it can often be true. Some state polls have shown this can be realistic, to an extent. There are always exceptions to the rules.
Now, back to stereotyping. Here are 15 things that “many” people in Kentucky love:
- We have a variety of hunting seasons, like anywhere else. In Kentucky, this is celebrated almost as a rite of passage, for boys to achieve manhood.

- Almost all Kentuckians love the great outdoors, though some prefer to enjoy it from a rented, air conditioned cabin.
Parks Kentucky
- We have some of the most beautiful state parks in the country, which contain lush forests, and jagged gorges to elegant waterfalls. Places like Red River Gorge and Cumberland Falls are renowned for their beauty.
Love to Know
- Kentucky sits on top of a huge cave system, part of which is Mammoth Cave. We kinda have to like caves, but not so much cave crickets.

- Homemade quilts have been keeping Kentuckians warm during chilly winter months for centuries.

- Kentuckians have somewhat perfected Thoroughbred breeding. People come here from all over the world to purchase these fleet footed horses.

- Kentuckians have strong Irish roots, plus they make a fine whiskey and stew.

- University of Kentucky Wildcats is one of the two most popular colleges in Kentucky when it comes to sports.

- We host a variety of festivals. Some of the most well known are the Bluegrass Music Fest, World Fest, Forecastle Fest, Reggae Festival, and the renowned Bourbon festival. We’ll get to the Bourbon Fest at #2.

- Kentucky has rich soil and plentiful farmlands. Even in the larger cities, one can usually find a farmers market.

- Many consider Kentucky to be the origin of Bluegrass music. Some of the best music heard at the state fair can be from Jug bands with a Washtub bass.

- An entire week dedicated to the drinking, celebrating and overall love of Kentucky bourbons.

- University of Louisville Cardinals is the other, of the two most popular colleges in Kentucky, when it comes to sports.

- We have been running the Kentucky Derby and Oaks for well over a century, along with the celebrated Keeneland races. Louisville Kentucky was deemed “Derby City” decades ago.

You will seldom meet a Kentuckian who hasn’t been to the Derby at least once, or sampled a sip of bourbon. It is possible you will meet that one person who never has… buts don’t expect it. I’ve been told that is just an urban legend.
