Beauty is not in short supply in the San Francisco Bay area. However, the past may loom larger than you think in obvious ways. The past is often left untouched or in disrepair. Why? Let’s look at these places around the Bay area being reclaimed by Mother Nature.

  1. Sutro Baths - 680 Point Lobos Ave, 94121

Derek Buff/Flickr The Sutro Baths were at one time San Francisco’s main swimming attraction. After decades of decline and an eventual fire in 1966, the Sutro Baths were left in disrepair. Today, if you get up close you’ll see how the ocean, wind, and elements have hugely affected the remains of Sutro Baths.

J Crew/Flickr Albany Bulb is an urban wasteland and former landfill. The Albany Bulb has decayed, and grown naturally with the help of Mother Nature of course. Believe it or not, you can hike, walk your dog, and explore the area.

  1. Point Reyes Shipwreck - 12781 Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Inverness, 94937
