We may not have dozens of castles in Washington, but we do have five structures that are notably medieval-looking:

  1. Thornewood Castle - Lakewood

Flickr / lara604 Perhaps the most well-known castle in the state, this historical site serves as a romantic wedding venue and cozy bed & breakfast! It was also the setting for ABC’s “Rose Red”, a Stephen King mini-series in 2002.

  1. Congdon Castle (Westhome) - Yakima

Flickr / wsmith The exterior of this mammoth stone-clad castle is awe-inspiring, but the fort is currently occupied by a family, so it isn’t available to the public for touring. Privacy is completely understandable, but you can’t help but wonder how amazing it looks on the inside, too! It has been noted that the castle has 80 rooms, 18 of which are bedrooms, and an indoor swimming pool!

  1. Manresa - Port Townsend

Flickr / martinvirtualtours This luxurious hotel & restaurant was built in 1892, and offers some alluring views of the Olympic and Cascade Mountains!

  1. Alexander Castle - Port Townsend / Fort Worden

Flickr / gexydaf Cutest little castle ever, right? It was built in 1883 to reflect the style of castles in Scotland, and is open for individuals and couples to reserve a homely getaway!

  1. Stadium High School - Tacoma

Wikipedia It may be your typical high school on the inside, but this Hogwarts-like structure was originally built as a luxury hotel in 1891. Parts of the movie “10 Things I Hate About You” with Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles was filmed here!
