Fall is the perfect time to take a drive through the country, and some of the roads near Austin are really scenic this time of year. Gas up the car, pack a lunch and don’t forget your camera!

Start at Sabinal, travel through Utopia and on to Vanderpool. You’ll reach the Lost Maples State Natural Area, which is vibrant with color during fall months. Spend some time at this natural area; take a hike, or enjoy a picnic. It’s beautiful this time of year.

Evan Doyle/flickr This pretty loop is known as one of the most scenic roads in the Austin area. It takes you along rolling hills and across the gorgeous Pennybacker Bridge, which crosses Lake Austin. The weathered, rust-colored bridge blends in beautifully with the surrounding scenery.
