There is a lot to love about the great state of Oklahoma. Our lakes are beautiful, we have gorgeous landmarks, the people are friendly and it is very affordable. But as great as it is, we all know there are things we want to avoid at all costs. Here are a few things that top our list:

  1. Toll Roads

flickr/jimmy emerson, dvm By any means, if you can drive on roads that don’t have tolls, take them. Some routes across the state can get expensive. You might even consider becoming a “shunpiker” - a person who often avoids toll roads.

  1. Twisters

  1. Pot-holes

  1. Shopping Before A Winter Storm

  1. Flooding

flickr/mtneer_man Stay away from flooded areas, many drownings occur because drivers think they can make it across flooded areas.

  1. Venomous Snakes

flickr/david The Water Moccasin (Cottonmouth) is Oklahoma’s only poisonous water snake. They travel away from the water, so be aware of them and keep your distance. Their coloration varies quite a bit. Look for other markings to determine if the snake is a cottonmouth, such as a large, triangular head with a dark line through the eye.

  1. Road Construction

  1. A Longhorn Fan

  1. Grass Fires

What other things should Oklahomans avoid?
