All the way up in the far northwest corner of the state, a few miles outside Superior, Amnicon Falls State Park looks like something out of a dream. With four separate, but easily accessible waterfalls, a campground and some gorgeous scenery, a trip to Amnicon looks like you stepped through the wardrobe and into a magical alternate reality…maybe this is Wisconsin’s Narnia.

The falls are named for the river that forms them - the Amnicon flows through here and around an island, creating the different falls.

The covered bridge over the pool at the bottom of the lower falls is quaint and this picture looks like fairies should be flying around it.

Anyplace with walkways helping you to go deeper in the woods and access more magical views is high on my list.

The cliffs here are millions of years old, but these strong trees still found a home on their rocky faces, defying nature.

Looking down over Snake Pit Falls is a bit dizzying, but it does take you out of your head and leave you wondering what stories there are to be told here.

Admiring the falls, swimming in their pools and feeling their spray on your face is enough to make you feel like you might have stepped into the pages of a fairytale.

But one of the best things about Amnicon is how easy it is to alter your reality by getting lost in the woods and finding new perspectives on things.

A little imagination goes a long way in a park that looks like it could have wood nymphs and talking animals around every turn.

The Now and Then Falls can vary based on the temperament of the river.

And the water colors vary based on the season, rain and snow runoff.

This park is just as dreamy in the winter as it is in the summer. You lose the running of the waterfalls, but the quiet park takes on an ethereal quality.

Being able to walk all around and view the power of the river and its falls from so many angles really lets you appreciate the natural beauty created here.

And changing perspectives helps you get out of your head and really become a part of the nature that’s all around you.
