A few days ago, I shared some really unique vintage photos from the past century. Today, I’ll be covering some of the best things that have happened in New Jersey throughout the past 50 years. Many of you may remember these events! Which stand out most in your mind?
- The Glassboro Summit Conference - 1967.
Wikipedia/White House Press Office In the middle of the Cold War, from June 23 to June 25, 1967, president Lyndon Johnson met with Soviet premier Alexei Kosygin in Glassboro, New Jersey. The meeting helped improve the relationship between the Soviet Union and the US.
- Princeton University admits its first female graduates - 1968.
Flickr/Kah-Wai Lin Though the Ivy League institution was founded in 1746, it took over 200 years for the school to allow female graduates.
- Rutgers becomes coeducational - 1972.

- The Stone Pony first opened - 1974.

- The Pinelands Preservation Act was passed - 1979.

- Bruce Springsteen opened the 20,000-seat Brendan Byrne Arena - 1981.

- Toms River East wins the Little League World Championships - 1998.
Flickr/Steve Allen And New Jersey residents were so proud! Todd Frazier, a star player, went on to play for the Cincinnati Reds and became a Home Run Derby champion.
