Oklahoma isn’t home to many waterfalls, so when we find one tucked away that’s amazing…we get VERY excited. Located in the prairies of northeastern Oklahoma near Pawhuska is Lake Bluestem…home of Bluestem Falls. This waterfall is created by the Bluestem Lake Spillway as the water cascades over rocks, creating beautiful flowing falls. It’s a picture-perfect spot hiding away that you’ll want to check out.

You’d never guess there’s a picturesque waterfall tucked away at Lake Bluestem. At first glance, it looks just like all our other lakes in the Sooner State.

If you know where to find this secret spot, out of nowhere will emerge breathtaking falls cascading down cliffs of shale and sandstone into a pool below.

Bluestem Lake area has several hiking trails and lots of great fishing. Bring along the poles and spend the whole day exploring this beautiful area.

Depending on the flow of water from the spillway, the water flow various at the falls. If you catch it on a day that’s overflowing, it’s even more spectacular.

To find Bluestem Falls, take Kihekah Avenue north from the center of Pawhuska until you reach CR4070. Turn left on CR4070 and continue over three miles until you come to a fork in the road. Take the left road of the fork and drive until you reach the spillway.
