Pittsburgh is famous for its hilly terrain and steep roads, but few come close to paralleling Canton Avenue in Beechview, just southwest of downtown. The road is at an unbelievable 37 degree slope, making it terrifying to drive on in inclement weather… Or maybe just at all times. Oh, and in case that isn’t enough, it’s also paved in cobblestones.

Google Maps Each year, Canton Avenue is included in Pittsburgh’s “Dirty Dozen,” an annual bike race which takes cyclists on the city’s twelve steepest hills. As you can imagine, Canton Ave is the crowning glory of this event.

Audi Germany/ YouTube Sometimes, even professional or semi-professional cyclists can’t make it up the hill without toppling over… Or, if they’re lucky, hopping off their bike and carrying it up the rest of the slope.
