This wonderful trail is known as the Caprock-Coulee Trail, located in the North Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

You begin on the Nature Trail, taking you through the trees and underbrush that fill the valleys of the badlands for about 3/4 of a mile.

As you continue, the trail moves into the main Caprock-Coulee trail, and begins to ascend up ridges. Sticking to the trail will make this easiest.

The hike to this point is about 2 and 1/2 miles, and includes a rock shelter known as the River Bend Overlook, built in 1937.
