Summer is starting to come to an end, so now’s the time to get out there and have a little fun while you still can. When the weather’s hot, there’s no better way to cool off than in a beautiful swimming hole, surrounded by South Dakota’s natural beauty. Take a look!
Cascade Falls is named because of the gently cascading falls that empty into the swimming hole here. Six warm springs upstream add their 67-degree water to Cascade Creek, which keeps it a nice, warm temperature.

The water cascading above the swimming hole is a nice place to splash around if you don’t want to swim in the deeper parts.

But if you’re ready to swim, this spot is a great place to cool off, without dipping into the freezing cold water you’ll find in other creeks and rivers.

You will likely find poison ivy along the banks. Rattlesnakes are often attracted to the area, so take care. If the swimming hole is very busy, it’s unlikely that you’ll run across them, but pay attention where you’re stepping just in case.
