If you’ve ever wanted to explore Cleveland’s hidden underbelly, now’s your chance. The Veterans Memorial Bridge and Subway Station is opening for public tours on Aug. 19. Visitors will be allowed to descend beneath the 3112-foot bridge and into one of the city’s creepiest abandoned spots.
The tour kicks off at the Superior Viaduct, which is the official entrance to the bridge. Though Cleveland residents will know all about the upper motorway of the Veterans Memorial Bridge, there’s actually a hidden tunnel lurking beneath the familiar road.

This dark, creepy passage has been abandoned since the city’s streetcars were discontinued in 1954. The tour is self-guided, which means you’ll be navigating this eerie length of tunnel on your own.

Besides giving yourself a serious case of the shivers, this tour will let you explore the original streetcar station and tracks, as well as experience unique views of the Cuyahoga River, Lake Erie and downtown Cleveland. You’ll also be able to check out exhibits and films illustrating the the history of the bridge.

If a walk down a dark, deserted tunnel sounds like your cup of tea, stop by 2433 Superior Viaduct on Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The tour is free but will only be available for one day, so don’t miss your chance to explore one of Cleveland’s creepiest secrets.
