When it comes to great restaurants, we know that bigger doesn’t always equal better. In fact, it’s often those tiny, out-of-the-way spots that serve up the most amazing meals. When you’re in Grand Island, the place to be is Coney Island Lunch Room.
Coney Island has been a beloved Grand Island institution since 1933.

When you step inside, it’s like stepping back in time. The place is teeny-tiny, with a row of booths on the left and a line of stools at the counter on the right.

The menu is about what you’d expect from a little diner: burgers, grilled cheese, fries, and a few other sandwiches. But we’ve got to be straight with you: you’re there for the coneys and milkshakes.

Customers swear that the coneys are as good as (better than?) those that you’ll find at east coast diners. Flavorful hot dogs, mustard, onions, and perfectly seasoned meat sauce all combine on the bun to make for one of the most satisfying meals you’ll ever have.

Of course, if you have a coney you have to have a thick shake to go with it - or a malt, if you’re so inclined. The meal will cost you a little more than the prices on this original menu from 1933, but it’s worth every penny.

While you’re there, you can enjoy the delightfully kitschy memorabilia everywhere, or have a chat with the owners. The staff is as friendly as the food is tasty, and both will leave you smiling for the rest of the day.
