This bizarre spot hiding in the redwood forests of Humboldt County is described as a place of “mystery, fun and family entertainment,” and is definitely worth checking out. Confusion Hill is located along the famous Avenue of the Giants and is one of the quirkiest and most worthwhile stops along the way. It’s a unique place that offers an afternoon of experiences unlike any you’ve had before. People have been coming here for decades to investigate a strange phenomenon that can’t be found anywhere else in Northern California.

This roadside attraction located in Piercy is surrounded by towering redwoods. That’s surprisingly not the major draw to this unique spot, however. It is the location of a fun and mysterious gravitational pull that will boggle your mind.

Confusion Hill was built in 1949 by George Hudson right after WWII. George was interested in finding his own “special” place after visiting the Oregon Vortex and the Santa Cruz Mystery Spot.

The place is now owned by Doug Campbell, pictured here. He and his wife, Carol, and his brother, Don, acquired the place and restored it as a premier Redwood attraction in 1999.

All signage, materials, and documentation of the “Gravity House” attest to the fact that this is a force of nature. (Trust us, it’s way more fun if you play along with it!)

In addition to the Gravity House, people also visit Confusion Hill to ride a fun miniature train through the Redwoods.

Another reason why it is a world famous icon is that it is the home of the elusive chipalope. It’s a mythical animal that is something between an antelope and a chipmunk.
