Sometimes we see a photograph is just so eerie that we can’t take our eyes off it. They may not be depicting anything too dramatic, nothing like the photography that comes from a war correspondent perhaps. Maybe it’s from everyday life, but it’s no less stunning. Here are some that come out of Michigan for you to marvel.
- Frankenstein standing guard at this small shelter in Manton, Mich.
Amanda/Flickr This otherwise desolate, overgrown field has one creepy sign of life.
- The long-gone teddy bear house at the Heidelberg Project.
rory mcharg/Flickr Many of the whimsical structures that made up the Heidelberg Project in Detroit have since been taken down by arsonists. But the images, like this one, still remain ingrained in our consciousness.
- An abandoned church in Detroit.
Timothy Neesam/Flickr Though long-abandoned, this magnificent church still holds its beauty.
- Bridge in Port Huron.
gerrybuckel/Flickr This bridge connects Michigan to Canada. Freaky thing about the fog, it makes it look like there really is no connection in the middle.
- A chandelier in the abandoned Vanity Ballroom in Detroit.
Timothy Neesam/Flickr In its heyday, this ballroom served as the swanky venue for such acts as Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Red Nichols. Now in ruins, it architectural detail is still a marvel to behold.
- Ice over the Detroit River.
Mike/Flickr It looks almost thick enough to skate on… Almost.
- Lighthouse in South Haven
Tom Gill/Flickr The way the wind whips the ice into perfect formation is truly arresting to look at.
- Mesabi Miner in Marquette.
Dan Wiedbrauk/Flickr This gargantuan, 1,006-foot long bulk carrier was quite eerie for Flickr user Dan Wiedbrauk to behold as it backed onto a dock in Marquette.
- The interior of Michigan Central Station.
Shane Gorski/Flickr This ghostly, iconic structure has been secured for years and years. But that hasn’t stopped shutterbugs like Flickr user Shane Gorski from entering and collecting some captivating shots.
- Clouds over Miner’s Beach at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
Blaine Courts/Flickr We love the use of black and white in this shot to give us an eerie spectacle.
