Before it became Roosevelt Island, this stretch of land served many roles for human inhabitants.

It’s believed that the island was a seasonal fishing village for Native Americans and later, the site of a beautiful mansion and gardens known as Mason’s Island. Today all that remains of this home is its foundation.
