Okay, it might not technically be in the middle of nowhere, but as far as the Hill Country goes, Georgetown is definitely one of the lesser-known towns. Located north of Round Rock, it has a population of about 45,000 but will remind you of towns much smaller with its charming town square, abundant nature, and rich history. If you’re planning a trip to Central Texas this summer, I highly suggest adding this little gem to your itinerary.

Downtown Georgetown has been named “The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas.”

Flickr/auvet A great way to experience it is First Fridays - every Friday, several shops stay open later than normal so visitors can kick off the weekend by leisurely strolling around and popping into galleries and antique stores, meeting local artists and enjoying live music in the restaurants.

Among the places to visit downtown include the historic courthouse, a winery, museums, and the Palace Theatre.

Nature is a huge part of life here. The San Gabriel River is breathtaking - especially at sunset - and full of picturesque waterfalls.

Georgetown is also the Red Poppy Capital of Texas!

Facebook/VisitGeorgetownTX Each April, the town hosts a festival honoring the beautiful flower. I know what you’re thinking - that’s almost a year away! Don’t fret, you’ll still see plenty of the vibrant blooms throughout the town if you visit this summer!

All in all, Georgetown is the perfect small town for everyone, whether you’re looking to spend time outdoors, take a step back in time with a historic town square, or a mix of both.
