River or lake is the big question when looking for a spot to swim around Portland. With several great swimming rivers in the close area, they are often the most logical choice, but if you want to head to a lake, take the drive to Hagg Lake. You will not be disappointed.
Located about 5 miles south of Forest Grove, Henry Hagg Lake is about 45 minutes from the city.

Part of the Tualatin River’s watershed, it is an artificial lake made by Scroggins Dam and has been a destination since the 70s.

Watersports are popular here, and you can bring your own raft, or rent a canoe, pedal boat, kayak, or stand-up paddle board at Mad Jack’s.

Biking is also loads of fun here. 10 miles of trails make it a perfect place to ride the afternoon away.
