You may know Tennessee for Nashville, the Graceland and the Grand Ole Opry, but this stunning state has some gorgeous gems that lie right under your nose. Most of the locals know ’em, but for all of you touristy out-of-towners, we’ve put together a suh-weet list of great spots for your next vacation.
- Mynatt Park - Gatlinburg
J. Stephen Conn / Flickr Running along the border of the Great Smoky Mountains National park, this stunning spot is perfect for fishing and wading. You can shoot some hoops or relax with a picnic at this secluded and handy little stretch of land.
- Burgess Falls - Sparta
Steve Harwood / Flickr Clean and clear and gorgeous, this magical waterfall lies at the end of a beautiful walk and culminates in an experience you’ll never forget.
- Elkmont - Great Smoky Mountains
Smoky Dan / Flickr This abandoned (as in GHOST) town is tucked up in the Great Smoky Mountains. Once used for vacationers, the place has become abandoned to the every so often explorer. Take a roll of film and shoot something pretty, hey?
- Forbidden Caverns - Sevierville
David Dudley / Flickr The neat walking tour through the Forbidden Caverns will give you chills as you explore one of the largest rock formations under Tennessee. Sevierville hides this little place very well, but you simply don’t want to miss it.
- Cherohala Skyway - East Tennessee
Wikimedia Although a national scenic byway, many people skip over or drive right through with nary a thought. Spotted with darling towns and friendly folk, this is one road trip that will make it to your scrapbook.
These are only five, but we’re dying to know more secrets – that is, if you’re willing to share? Give us some tips in the comments below!
