Vermont has a history that runs deep, that’s a fact. We’ve had two presidents hail from the Green Mountain State and booming ventures in agriculture and more. We’re proud of our history and we love to learn more, and what better way to visualize our past than by looking at some of the oldest photos in VT. These historical pictures may open your eyes to how things were around the turn of the century. While these photos merely scratch the surface of our historical roots, we enjoy them nonetheless.
This photo of the Fairview Hotel taken in 1916 is the hotel, restaurant and 3rd floor ballroom.

This historic image shows a train pulled by a steam locomotive on a track. It had gone through a deep cut into sand (under North Avenue) and deposited into the lake. This picture is thought to have been taken between 1860’s-1880’s.

This is a picture of Addie Card, a spinner in a North Pownal cotton mill. She claimed to be 12 years old but other workers said she was 10. She started working while on a school vacation and never returned.
