What is it about spotting a personalized license plate that’s so exciting? You just have to figure out what the (sometimes confusing) combination of letters and numbers crammed into a seven-space tag might mean. You probably also feel compelled to show the person next to you, or if possible, take a photo. We spend so much time in our cars, it only makes sense that people would look for ways to express themselves on the road.

Have you ever considered getting a vanity tag for your car? It’s actually not a difficult process, but it does cost money — in extra tag fees and a $35 one-time manufacturing fee. All you have to do is get a MV-9B form online or from your local DMV. Now for the fun part. You get three chances to choose a personalized tag that hasn’t been taken already by someone on the road.

Of course, the DMV screens these tags for anything obscene or offensive, such as insults, innuendo, or anything illegal (and they’ll be the first to tell you that there are A LOT of submissions that are not kosher). We’ve rounded up just a handful of the funniest, most ridiculous actual rejected submissions which are kept in an ongoing list by the Georgia Department of Revenue. Be warned, though, they are ridiculously immature, and at times, downright obscene.

Are you shaking your head in disbelief? Can you imagine working at the DMV, trying to decipher thousands of plates like this (and much worse) every year?
