And I’m one of those people. High Point State Park is absolutely stunning and offers one of my favorite views in New Jersey. Home to the highest point in the state, you can see for miles. Almost every New Jerseyan knows it exists, but here’s why you’ll absolutely want to visit.
At 1,803 feet above sea level, High Point State Park offers unparalleled views of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

Hiking to the top of High Point is always an adventure, but you can also drive up and enjoy sights like this.

When you reach the summit, you will find a stunning 220-foot obelisk, built in 1930 as a war memorial. Visitors can climb to the top during summer months.

Spectacular during any season, the fall foliage is breathtaking.

Winter is just as lovely and brings opportunities for cross country skiing. Rentals, cozy fires, hot soup and more can be found at the Lake Marcia visitor’s center.

You’ll find several lakes in the park, perfect for fishing. Lake Marcia offers swimming and Lakes Sawmill and Steenykill offer boating.

Another gem to be found at High Point State Park? The Atlantic white cedar swamp in Dryden Kuser Natural Area is the highest elevation swamp of its kind in the world.

Perhaps the most magical thing to do here watch the sun set. Be sure to bring your camera.

Not that you’ll need it; you’ll remember the feeling forever.

High Point State Park is also home to an interpretive center, offering a variety of programs. Visit on Earth Day (April 22nd) for yoga and meditation on the mountain. The family-friendly Teddy Bear Picnic will be held on April 29th and is an event that children are sure to love. You can find the park at: 1480 Route 23, Sussex. A small admission fee is charged between Memorial Day & Labor Day. For more natural beauty in New Jersey, check out this private nature sanctuary.
