If you’re looking to add some adventure to your week, there’s an incredible trail here in Southern California that will get you out in nature and lead you to the rusted remains of a shipwreck from 55-years ago. This is a short hike, approximately 2-miles one way, but it’s a challenging hike with a steep decline and LOTS and LOTS of rocks, so make sure to come prepared with sturdy shoes. If you’re tempted to wear flip flops you won’t get very far on this hike, so lace up those hiking boots and leave the sandals at home. Now that we have the disclaimers out of the way, are you ready to explore? Let’s take a look at what you’ll find on the fascinating Shipwreck Trail.

So where exactly is this trail? Head to Palos Verdes at the intersection of Paseo Del Mar and Cloyden Road. You’ll find free parking along Paseo Del Mar.

Once you reach the shoreline you’ll follow along this rocky path. Be very careful as the rocks can be challenging to navigate and slick when wet.

Did we mention the trail was rocky? When we say there are rocks along the path, we mean it. Here’s another stretch of the trail that is filled with nothing but rocks…

Take a look around and you’ll see all sorts of rusted remnants from a freighter ship called the SS Dominator. The ship lost its way in the fog on its way to Los Angeles back in 1961 and ran ashore on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

55 years later, the rusted remains of this shipwreck are still scattered about along the rocks.
