One of our favorite things about Maine is the fact that behind every bend in the trail lies another hidden gem. From secret hikes to small lobster shacks, you never know when you might run into something that will take your day in a totally new direction. During the summer, we love finding Maine swimming holes! This is one of our favorites!

Easy! The most amazing Maine swimming hole!

Frenchman’s Hole, located in Bethel, is not only beautiful but lots of fun!

The slightly secluded spot is near Sunday River where the river runs off the mountain making a lovely spot for swimming.

But, more than just a swimming hole, Frenchman’s has an awesome waterfall too.

Visitors can jump from the top into the deep pool, perfect for an epic landing!

With a drop of about 20-30 feet, the jump is fun and exhilarating.

As with any waterfall, always be careful of the current that can be strong at the bottom.

On nice summer day’s this spot can be pretty busy, but its forest location means it’s an easy hike down to find other pools in which to swim.

After your plunge, look towards the right of the falls where there should be a rope to help you make your way back to the top.

Frenchman’s Hole is hidden, yet easy enough to find:
Max Jones / Vimeo Head to North Bethel, where you’ll head northwest on Sunday River Road. Soon you’ll pass the covered bridge eventually arriving at two logging bridges. Make your way across the bridges then turn right. Keep going until you see the parking area on the right.
