At the top of Battery Street in Downtown Burlington, you’ll find this lovely winter-friendly park.

Once the snow flies and temperatures reach freezing, it’s time to grab your ice skates and head to Battery Park!

Built as a military camp during the War of 1812, American gunners successfully defended the park against an attack by a British squadron.

Two other noteworthy monuments in the park include an 8 foot tall bronze statue of Vermont’s famous civil war General William W. Wells and a red oak sculpture acknowledging the heritage of the American Indians which is named “Greylock” after a renowned Abenaki Indian chief.

This 14 acre park was deeded to the City in 1870 and the monuments provide a wonderful history of important events in Vermont history.
