The lovely little town of Milton, Delaware became an important inland port as early as the 18th century, when it was a major industrial center for lumber, mills, and ship building. It is located on the Broadkill River, just about 10 miles inland of Cape Henlopen, so it was safe from naval attacks and pirates that plundered the other coastal towns. Nowadays, Milton is one of the most charming towns in Delaware, with some of the most recognizable buildings and scenery in the state.
