You’ll find Kelso Dunes in the Mojave National Preserve. The dunes encompass 45 square miles and are as high as 650 feet tall.

The hike is three miles, round trip. It can be more difficult than it looks, so make sure you’re prepared with plenty of water and sunscreen.

To get to the Kelso Dunes Trailhead, head east on I-40 from Barstow. Exit on Kelbaker Road, then turn onto Kelso-Dunes Road to the parking lot.
