There’s something so nostalgic about a classic train ride. Whether you’re a kid or a kid at heart, it’s great fun to hear the train clank along the rails and watch the world move by. In New Hampshire, we have several scenic trains to enjoy! You may have ridden the Mount Washington Cog Railway, but did you know about this fun option on Lake Winnipesaukee?
The Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad route starts in Meredith and heads downhill towards Weirs Beach with amazing views of the lake and Mount Belknap in the background, traveling on a railroad route built in 1849.

It even passes practically through people’s yards! Between the beautiful lakefront houses and the natural scenery, there’s always something to look at.

In the fall the scenery is especially magnificent, and the train’s schedule expands so everyone can take in the gorgeous foliage views.

Of course, it’s a perfect activity for families. And there’s plenty to keep kids occupied, from the included “hobo sack lunch” to a train staff member who makes balloon animals.

Once you’ve traveled all the way up to Lakeport, the train turns around to head back through Weirs Beach and to Meredith.
