It’s almost fall, y’all, and while that might not mean much for Texas in terms of temperature, it does bring some breathtaking foliage. Lost Maples State Natural Area in Vanderpool is a perfect example of what autumn in Texas looks like. Check it out:
Lost Maples is spectacular year-round, but when fall rolls around, it takes on a beauty that can only be described as fanciful.

The leaves turn all different shades of yellow, red, and orange, and their vibrancy will leave you absolutely awestruck.

There are over ten miles of trails of varying lengths and elevations. Some are as short as 1/3 of a mile, so people of all fitness levels can enjoy the park.

Bird watching is also a popular activity here at Lost Maples. You’ll see two endangered species, the Golden-Cheeked Warbler and the Black-Capped Vireo. Learn more about the birds here.

Fishing can be done in the Sabinal River or Can Creek. The best part is that you don’t even need a fishing license!!

As far as camping, there are 30 sites with water and electricity and six primitive sites. I’d suggest the latter - the farther you go into the park, the more vibrant the vegetation becomes.
