If you think artist communities are a thing of the past, you’ve obviously never heard of Marfa. It’s been growing and thriving over the years, flourishing into a hidden gem in the desert that many people, even native Texans, don’t realize exists. Next time you’re headed to West Texas, be sure to stop and check out this incredibly unique town.
Due to the fact that it’s a Mecca for artists, Marfa is full of random sculptures that seem completely out-of-place. Take this replica of a Prada store, for example. Believe it or not, all the merchandise inside is real!

While these may look like ordinary blocks of concrete, they’re also artwork. The Chinati Foundation calls them “15 untitled works in concrete,” built from 1980-1984.

Oh, and if you’re in need of some unusual objects, this town has the perfect place for you. It may look like a junkyard - and I suppose it is - but at least it’s full of FANCY junk!

There’s also a liquor store dedicated to, you guessed it, cheap liquor. Because why waste money on drinks when you could go to awesome museums and eat delicious food instead?

This is part of the Chinati Foundation, a contemporary art museum full of unique, inspiring pieces. You’ll definitely want to pay it a visit while you’re here - it’s one of Marfa’s most iconic destinations!

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, Food Shark has the best grub around. It’s Mediterranean food like falafel and hummus with seating in an old bus and vintage cars parked all over the vicinity!

And as far as a place to stay, look no further than El Cosmico. The collection of trailers, yurts, and tepees is by far the most unique motel you will ever stay in.
