I’ve noticed from the comments that some of you don’t think the Arkansas Delta is getting enough love, and you’re right. The Delta is easily the most underrated region in the Natural State, and it’s time to return once again to that underrated region, to talk about an underrated little town there. The city of McGehee isn’t tiny, but with a population of a little over 4,000, it is small. That doesn’t mean you can’t find big fun there, however. McGehee is a perfectly lovely place to find history, adventure, and good eats.
McGehee is located in the lower Delta. You can find directions here.
McGehee has been around since 1906, and you’ll find a lot of history around there.

Most of that history is agricultural and railroad-related.

Some of that history isn’t quite so nostalgic, however, as railroads and fields of rice. The Rohwer Relocation Center, an internment camp for Japanese Americans during World War II, was located near the town of McGehee in Desha County.

Today in McGehee you’ll find a Japanese American Internment Museum. In that museum you’ll find a film, oral histories, and artifacts belonging to the people who lived there.

When it comes to recreation, McGehee and the tiny nearby town of Tilllar share something not many small towns can claim: an incredible resort.

Delta Resort & Spa has all the rest and relaxation you could want, and it includes some activities that will feed your desire for adventure. There’s world class duck hunting in the lower Delta, and you can hone your shooting skills at the Delta Resort’s Shooting Sports Complex.

Though if you’re not feeling particularly sporty, you can always enjoy the spa part of the Delta Resort & Spa.

The Delta is famous for its barbecue, and you can sample that barbecue at a little place in McGehee called Hoot’s.

They’re specialists in the barbecue business, and you can’t do much better for good eats than Hoot’s.

In short, you need to spend some time in McGehee, there’s ton to do there, and it’s so underrated that you’ve probably been missing out.
