As densely populated as Little Rhody is, there are still a few abandoned structures left as reminders of places that were once magnificent. From old textile mills to massive decaying train stations, if you know where to look, there are quite a few places to explore in the state. One structure found in a gorgeous park on Aquidneck Island is being consumed by local plant life and it’s creating a lovely sight.
Brenton Point State Park is found on Ocean Drive in the beautiful town of Newport in Aquidneck Island. The park is situated along the point where Narragansett Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean creating a delightful ocean breeze and stunning scenery.

The land has a complicated history. Formerly an impressive private estate, the land was eventually repurposed and used as a coastal artillery during WWII. It fell under state hands in the 1960s.

The gorgeous villa that once stood here changed ownership over the years and was eventually left unoccupied in the 1940s. After damage from both a hurricane and an eventual fire, the home was demolished.

The carriage house known as the Bells and bungalow still remain in the park, but are almost too difficult to recognize at their level of decay.
