South Dakota’s Badlands National Park is an incredible sight, and the best way to see it is to take a hike to get up close and personal with the rock formations here. This hike isn’t easy, but it’s well worth the effort.
Notch Trail is a 1.5 mile round-trip hike that takes you from the valley floor to a notch in the rock that provides a stunning view.

Before you embark on this hike, make sure you’re wearing sturdy shoes, have plenty of water and aren’t afraid of heights. The park service advises against this hike when it’s raining because both the ladder and trail become very slippery.
