Treasures have been hidden beneath Lake Mead ever since the Hoover Dam was built. In order to dam the Colorado River and create the man-made reservoir, several nearby towns were intentionally flooded. One of these towns, St. Thomas, has re-emerged due to Lake Mead’s low waters. The flatirons are some of Colorado’s most impressive geologic features, and you can see them in several places across the state. One place in which they’re just absolutely jaw dropping is Littleton, which features a small grouping. A killer place to view these stunning rock formations is Arrowhead Golf Club, where the juxtaposition of the craggy, red rock contrasts beautifully with the lush, green landscape of the golf course.
