Many amazing attractions are located throughout Alabama. However, Cathedral Caverns State Park, located in Marshall County, is an attraction like no other. Cathedral Caverns, originally known as “Bat Cave,” was opened to the public during the 1950s by Jay Gurley. After Gurley’s wife claimed the inside of the cave resembled a cathedral, he renamed the cave “Cathedral Caverns.” From 1959 to 1974, Cathedral Caverns was maintained by Jay Gurley.
