As a fairly new town only incorporated some 30 years ago, it was also new knowledge to me to learn about Leland. Located just ten minutes from Wilmington and a half hour from Carolina Beach, it’s the perfect secret getaway for the nature, golf, and relaxation lover. Leland is mainly known for its award-winning golf courses. There’s the fairly recent Compass Pointe Golf Club which opened last summer and encompasses tee choices 7,228 yards from the championships to 4,733 yards from the forwards....

The founder of this property was born in 1796 in England. He moved to America one year after his 1820 marriage. He purchased this land in 1834 and built a house on it. Elko, South Carolina (population 193) in Barnwell County is a tiny little town alongside Highway 78. It’s a picturesque litte place with farms, quaint houses and nice lawns.
