You’ll find this little state park just 5 minutes south of the town of Garretson. It’s considered one of the most unique locations in Mount Rushmore State.

The gorgeous Split Rock Creek that flows through the area is surrounded by stunning Sioux quartzite formations and gorgeous cliffs that geologists estimate to be 1.2 billion years old.

This state park is also home to an intriguing legend. It’s said that Jesse James famously jumped on horseback across Devil’s Gulch to evade capture in 1876. Though some historians claim it’s impossible, the legend lives on.
