You don’t have to only imagine what it would be like to step foot into the world of the famous fantasy series by J. R. R. Tolkien. There are whimsical places all around, and this spot in particular looks like something straight out of Middle Earth. Take a walk through it yourself and experience the beauty of the scenery, regardless if you are a diehard fan of the series or barely know about it at all.
The views in this park are stunning, and certainly bring to mind some of the most memorable scenes from the series.

Enyo K/Tripadvisor Known as Split Rock Creek, it has cut through the rock over many years and resulted in huge spires that are fairly popular with rock climbers, photographers, and anyone else who gets the chance to see them in person. Some of the formations even have names! Geologists have estimated that these rocks are nearly 1.2 billion years old.
You can almost imagine an elven city tucked away among the colorful natural formations.

In other areas of the park, dense forests surround you in a mystical atmosphere, taking you into an entirely different world.

Are there any other places in South Dakota that remind you of a fantasy world? One interesting place to experience is the Mickelson Trail, an abandoned railroad trail that winds through tunnels, over bridges, and through forests. You can read more about it here.
